Explosive Encounters and Sharp Exchanges

The pair's history is filled with dramatic moments. In 2022, their Wimbledon third-round clash saw tensions reach a boiling point. Stefanos Tsitsipas accused Nick Kyrgios of 'bullying' after the match, while the Australian bit back, calling Tsitsipas 'soft'. These fiery exchanges added an extra layer of excitement to their rivalry.

Despite the heated moments, there is a grudging respect between the two players. They even teamed up for doubles at the 2019 Citi Open, where their chemistry was evident. This shows that there is more to their relationship than just on-court battles.

Tsitsipas' Perspective on Playing with Kyrgios

In a lighthearted Q&A, Tsitsipas was asked about his dream doubles partners. He named Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal, even calling Nadal underrated in doubles. When asked about playing with Nick Kyrgios, he candidly replied, "Ooh, up and down!" He added that he hadn't yet partnered with Andy Murray but would have liked to.

This shows that Tsitsipas has a unique perspective on playing with Kyrgios. Their styles and personalities are quite different, which makes their doubles partnership an interesting experience.

Kyrgios' Excitement to Face Tsitsipas

Kyrgios, returning to the ATP Tour in Brisbane next year, is well aware of the new generation of players rising through the ranks. When asked about the opponents he's most excited to face, he reflected on the changing landscape of tennis.

"The tennis world right now is definitely the changing of the guard. Rafa and Fed are not there anymore, and you could comfortably say it's the back end of Novak's career now," he said. He acknowledged the competitive energy of the new generation, including Carlos Alcaraz, Holger Rune, and Jannik Sinner.

On a personal note, Kyrgios expressed a specific desire to face Jannik Sinner and Stefanos Tsitsipas. "I would love to play Jannik Sinner at some stage. Hopefully not my first match back! … But that is probably the one which would be circled on my calendar," he said. "And it's always fun playing Tsitsipas. I think we all know that is a very healthy one for the tennis world."
